Watermelon Agua Fresca

This refreshing beverage is perfect for a hot summer day. Make this when watermelon is in season so you can find sweet melon at a lower cost. Using natural sweet fruit adds great flavor without a lot of added sugar. Substitute cantaloupe for watermelon if desired.

Ingredients (serves 6)

  • 8 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 1 cup cold tap water
  • 2 Tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar

Preparation

  1. Add 4 cups of the watermelon and 1/2 cup of water to a blender. Puree until blended.
  2. Pour mixture through a mesh strainer into a pitcher or large bowl.
  3. Repeat with the remaining watermelon and water.
  4. Add sugar and lime juice to the strained watermelon juice. Stir until well combined.
  5. Serve over ice.
