Salad Dressing Crash Course

Keep your salads interesting with some of these homemade dressings! Forget all the store-bought dressings that are based in cream and mayonnaise. These healthy alternatives boast nutrition and punchy flavor.

Homemade salad dressing

Ingredients (serves 10)

Yogurt Poppy Seed Dressing (makes 5 servings of 24 g)

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tablespoon each of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoon honey
  • 2 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • Salt to taste

Spicy Tahini Ranch Dressing (makes 5 servings of 20 g)

  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon each of dried parsley and chives
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of onion and garlic powder
  • 1/8—1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3+ tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Berry Vinaigrette Dressing (makes 8 servings of 29 g)

  • 3/4 cup fresh berries
  • 3 tablespoons each of balsamic and red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • Salt to taste

Carrot Ginger Dressing (makes 10 servings of 34 g)

  • 2 large carrots
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 – 1 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation

Yogurt Poppy Seed Dressing

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk with a fork.

Spicy Tahini Ranch Dressing

Combine all ingredients, minus the water, in a bowl and whisk with a fork. Slowly add in the water while continuing to whisk until the dressing reaches the desired consistency.

Berry Vinaigrette Dressing

Rinse berries in a strainer. Transfer berries to a food processor and pulse about 5 times. Add the remaining ingredients to the food processor and blend until smooth.

Carrot Ginger Dressing

Rinse, peel, and roughly chop carrots. Transfer to a food processor with the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
