This down-and-dirty barbecue sauce by Chef Andy Husbands is as easy as reaching for a jarred one from the supermarket. Chances are you already have all the ingredients in your pantry!
Ingredients (serves 1)
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup packed light brown sugar
½ cup apple cider vinegar
¼ cup water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ tablespoons yellow mustard
½ tablespoon garlic powder
½ tablespoon ground cumin
½ tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
½ tablespoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon yellow mustard seeds
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 cup ketchup
Preparation
Combine all the ingredients except the ketchup in a medium saucepan over medium-high
heat, whisking to blend.
Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring
occasionally.
Whisk in the ketchup and continue to simmer for 5 minutes more.
Remove from the heat.
Cool to room temperature and refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
