Volunteer Coordinator

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program whose mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. As a leader in the Food is Medicine movement, Community Servings envisions a world in which everyone has access to the nutritious food they need for health and well being as a fundamental right.

Community Servings seeks a Volunteer Coordinator whose main role is to recruit, schedule, train, and oversee the volunteers who provide the workforce needed to help our kitchen staff produce and package 2,500 daily meals from scratch.

Primary Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management

Welcome volunteers and assign duties/tasks in collaboration with kitchen staff

Design and conduct daily volunteer orientations to volunteer groups and individual volunteers

Enforce kitchen sanitation policies

 

Recruitment and Coordination

Recruit individual and group volunteers by promoting Community Servings to partnering agencies and other organizations in order to increase volunteers numbers as the agency grows

Schedule and confirm individual volunteers and follow up with volunteer inquiries

Maintain and build relationships with our diverse base of volunteers from all backgrounds and with different abilities

Maintain effective communication among volunteers, staff and clients

Recruit volunteers for agency fundraising events

 

Recognition

Work collaboratively with the Manager of Volunteer Services to manage a system of ongoing appreciation and recognition for volunteers

Identify and nurture leadership abilities in volunteers

 

Administrative

Complete any necessary volunteer documentation.  (DTA, community service, and other agency verification)

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs and the Manager of Volunteer Services

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working with large groups, delegating tasks, and public speaking
  • Experience working with Salesforce preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

 

Education/Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years’ experience in the area of volunteer or project management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
