Community Servings Graduates First Class of Food Service Job Trainees

On January 14, the seven members of Community Servings' inaugural job training program graduated from their 12-week class.

The program included kitchen training; classroom instruction on customer service, nutrition, and topics covered in the ServSafeļ¾® food safety exam; cooking demonstrations by Mark Sapienza of The Langham, Boston, and David Cox of The Capital Grille; and field trips to UpStairs on the Square, The Four Seasons Boston, Harvard University Dining Services, Penzeys Spices and 21st Century Foods. Over the 12 weeks, trainees baked sweet potato pies for Pie in the Sky and developed diabetic-friendly desserts and six new vegetarian entrees for our clients.

According to Chef/Trainer Susan Logozzo, everyone in the class worked really well together and appreciated the welcoming environment at Community Servings. Based on their skill levels, reliability, and dedication, Susan "can see each graduate working in any kitchen."

After the graduation ceremony at Community Servings, the graduates were the special dinner guests of The Capital Grille, where they were treated to a feast by Executive Chef David Cox.

Since graduation, three students have accepted jobs and Community Servings continues to support the remaining job-seekers with resume writing, letters of reference, and job searching assistance.
Everyone at Community Servings congratulates our graduates and looks forward to the next class that begins on February 9.
